Recreation
#

Forest-based recreation is greatly valued by local residents and is a significant draw for visitors to the Sunshine Coast.  The forests surrounding Sechelt are used for a wide variety of year-round recreational uses.  There are many kilometers of trails for hiking, biking, equestrian use and roads for 4X4 exploring, quad and motorcycle riding.  The trails provide access to various lakes for fishing and other water related activities.  In winter, roads are frequented by snowmobiles and cross country skiers.

The Community Forest supports local recreation by directly assisting local projects such as the Hidden Grove trail and parking lot development and by mapping and inventorying recreational features.  Communication with recreational groups and individuals is important to maintain harvesting schedules that do not interfere with events such as the BC Bike Race, and to ensure road deactivation keeps recreational access options open.

Recreation within the forests surrounding our community is important for our local economy and for the health and well-being of our community.
