Forest Stewardship Plans are, by nature, complex. A Forest Stewardship Plan (FSP) must explain how we will comply with various regulations that apply to all forest license holders in BC, including the following key legislation and guidelines:

Forest and Range Practices Act (FPRA): requires an FSP to include specific results and strategies for managing eleven key resource values, measures to prevent invasive plants, strategies to maintain natural range barriers, and map-based planning for forest development activities. The plan must ensure compliance with government objectives and values, and it has a term of five years, renewable for additional terms

Forest Planning and Practices Regulation (FPPR): This regulation outlines the specific content requirements for an FSP, including results and strategies for managing resource values such as biodiversity, cultural heritage, fish/riparian areas, forage, recreation, soils, timber, visual quality, water quality, and wildlife.

Wildlife Act: Ensures that forest practices do not negatively impact wildlife habitats and populations.

Water Sustainability Act: Addresses the protection of water resources during forest operations.

Heritage Conservation Act: Protects cultural heritage resources within forest areas.

Invasive Species Council of BC guidelines: Provides measures to prevent and manage invasive species.

We thank those who took the time to learn about the FSP and the role of this planning process in promoting sustainable management of the community forest. The feedback received will now be provided to the Ministry of Forests and shíshálh Nation for consideration with our FSP renewal.
