The Sunshine Coast Community forest is seeking one Wildfire Risk Reduction Supervisor and four Crew Members for full time temporary work January - March 2026. Both full job descriptions are shown below as well as how to apply.


Wildfire Risk Reduction Crew Member

Motivated and reliable crew members will support community resiliency while gaining hands-on experience in forest management and wildfire mitigation.

As part of a small field crew, you will help reduce wildfire risk by removing hazardous fuels, improving forest stand conditions, and supporting on-the-ground restoration activities. This is physical outdoor work that directly contributes to community safety and ecological health.


Key Responsibilities

  • Remove brush, small trees, and ladder fuels to reduce wildfire risk.

  • Conduct hand treatments such as pruning, spacing, and debris consolidation.

  • Assist with chipper operations, including feeding and clearing material.

  • Work safely in variable weather and on uneven terrain.

  • Follow established safety procedures and contribute to a positive, respectful team culture.

  • Conduct all activities in accordance with instructions provided by supervisor and ask for clarification when unsure


Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in forestry, wildfire operations, landscaping, environmental restoration, or outdoor labour is an asset.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work.

  • Safety-focused mindset and ability to follow direction and established protocols.

  • Interest in learning and applying ecosystem-based management and wildfire risk reduction practices.

Compensation: $26.50 – 32 hourly depending on experience, inclusive of statutory vacation and holiday pay.

Wildfire Risk Reduction Crew Supervisor


The Crew Supervisor will lead a small team completing wildfire risk reduction activities. This role is ideal for someone with experience in forestry or wildfire operations who is confident in task planning, on-site decision-making, and building a strong, safety-oriented crew culture.

The Crew Supervisor will oversee day-to-day operations, ensure safe work procedures are followed, coordinate equipment and materials, and participate in field work alongside the crew.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily safety tailgates, ensure all work follows safety requirements, and maintain a culture of situational awareness.

  • Assign tasks and oversee brushing, hand treatment, small-tree removal, pruning, and debris management.

  • Operate and supervise use of chippers, chainsaws, and hand tools.

  • Monitor work quality, efficiency, and adherence to wildfire risk reduction prescriptions.

  • Coordinate equipment needs, vehicle use, and reporting requirements.

  • Support a respectful, inclusive, and team-focused work environment.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience supervising forestry, vegetation management, wildfire, or comparable field crews.

  • Competence with chippers, chainsaws, and common hand tools used in vegetation and fuel management.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and protocols.

  • Valid driver’s license preferred; 4x4 vehicle an asset.

  • Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 1 or higher with transportation endorsement is an asset.
