- 1 min read
A small wildfire (estimated at less than one hectare) has been identified within the Sunshine Coast Community Forest.

Update 9:30am: Flames are now minimal, two helicopters are on the fire and a third is being called in, water trucks are refilling as well as heavy equipment to ensure the fire is fully extinguished. This will be followed by a period of monitoring. The photo gallery below has been updated with current photos and video showing conditions from the air and on the ground.
The fire was reported to BC Wildfire Service at approximately 5:20 a.m. by an SCCF logging contractor who observed smoke while driving to work in the area. The fire is within current logging project HM66.
BC Wildfire Service has mobilized a helicopter response, and SCCF's S-100 certified contractor is assisting with a water truck.
Smoke from the fire may be visible from the Davis Bay waterfront and other areas of Sechelt.
To support emergency response efforts, we ask members of the public to avoid using the main Forest Service Road off the end of Mason Road (commonly called the Mine Rd) and Crowston Rd. Limiting traffic in the area will help ensure safe and rapid passage for emergency response traffic.
We appreciate the quick actions of those who reported and responded to the fire. SCCF will continue to work closely with BC Wildfire Service and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
Thank you for your cooperation. We will provide updates as more information becomes available, and the BC Wildfire app provides daily status updates on all active wildfires. The fire ID# is V50592
