Great things happen when communities come together! We’re piloting an exciting value-added project with David Reeve from Legacy Log and Timber.
Together, we’re turning our locally grown timber into custom lumber for a home being built in Victoria, BC.
This project began when a homeowner specifically sought out lumber from a Community Forest. He recognized the care, stewardship, and local impact that comes with it. In December, we selected and harvested Douglas Fir logs from Block AN27, and by January, milling was underway.
Soon, this lumber will be heading to Vancouver Island for finishing touches before it becomes part of a home filled with community spirit.
On March 5th we hosted a tour to the milling operation, to see the process in action, and discuss ways to improve community access to locally grown lumber. There are challenges, but also opportunities - let’s talk about how we can make it happen!
This is what a Community Forest is all about - supporting local businesses, sustainable forestry, and creating something meaningful together.
We look forward to sharing an update from the homeowner when their house is complete!
